Gill’s 223 powers India to series-clinching chase

Captain Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 223 as India reached 406 for two in 43.3 overs, with 39 balls remaining. Gill’s innings included 26 fours and eight sixes. He reached his second ODI double century in 117 balls, the fastest such score in the format, surpassing Ishan Kishan’s 126-ball mark. Gill had previously scored 208 against New Zealand in 2023. His 223 not out is also reported as the highest individual ODI score by an Indian captain. Rohit Sharma made 101 from 75 balls, and he and Gill shared a 255-run opening partnership. After Rohit was dismissed, Virat Kohli scored 29 before Ruturaj Gaikwad joined Gill to complete the chase. Gaikwad finished unbeaten on 31. West Indies had set the target with 405 for seven in 50 overs, their highest ODI total. John Campbell scored 101, captain Shai Hope made 104 and Amir Jangoo added 114, giving the visitors three centurions in the same innings.
