Rohit Sharma reaches 12,000 ODI runs in Guwahati

Rohit Sharma became the third Indian batter to score 12,000 runs in one-day internationals on Wednesday, reaching the milestone during India’s second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati. He crossed the mark while India were chasing a target of 406, joining Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as the only Indians to reach the total. Rohit completed the landmark with a single during his innings, according to match accounts. He had started the chase 73 runs short of 12,000 and reached the milestone while scoring a half-century. India were pursuing a target set after the West Indies made 405 in their innings. The achievement also placed Rohit among seven batters reported to have scored at least 12,000 runs in ODI cricket. The group includes Tendulkar, Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardene. Reports described Rohit as the second-fastest batter to reach 12,000 ODI runs, but used different measures. One account said he reached the mark in 282 innings. Another reported that he had faced 12,973 deliveries, compared with 12,853 for Kohli, and ranked Rohit second by balls faced.
