Boulos meets Sudan’s Burhan as diplomacy continues
U.S. adviser Massad Boulos met Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in Egypt over the weekend, as the United States and regional partners pursue diplomacy aimed at a political solution to Sudan’s war. Boulos said the meeting reaffirmed efforts with Egypt and other partners to advance that process, but no ceasefire agreement or commitment from Burhan was reported. Boulos, the White House senior adviser for Arab and African affairs, described the meeting in a post on X on Monday. He said the United States was ready to support comprehensive dialogue among Sudanese political forces and the development of a preliminary roadmap for the country’s future. Reports said the meeting took place at a lunch hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, alongside an African Union midyear coordination meeting. The encounter followed Washington’s decision to withhold a visa for Burhan ahead of a planned appearance at the United Nations General Assembly. Sudan’s foreign minister criticized the denial, while Sudanese and other sources linked it to a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal that Sudan’s army has resisted.
