Binance Pay adds crypto payments at PayPay merchants in Japan

Binance said eligible overseas users of its Binance Pay service can use supported cryptocurrency, including USDT, to pay at participating PayPay merchants in Japan through the HIVEX payment network, with merchants receiving settlement in Japanese yen. The service is described as available from September 30, although one report places the integration’s announcement in early August, leaving the announcement and start dates unclear. The company says the feature is available to eligible Binance Pay users from more than 100 countries and regions, an estimated group of about 48 million people. That figure refers to eligible Binance Pay users, not all Binance account holders. Japanese residents are excluded, and users must be in a jurisdiction where Binance Pay is supported and complete Binance’s identity verification process. HIVEX connects Binance Pay with PayPay’s existing QR payment infrastructure. Customers can scan a merchant’s PayPay QR code using Binance Pay or, where supported, display a payment code for staff to scan.
