Bhuvneshwar to captain India at Hong Kong Sixes

Published 5 October 2026

India has named Bhuvneshwar Kumar captain of a seven-player squad for the Hong Kong Sixes, scheduled to run from October 30 to November 1, 2026. The selection is for the six-a-side tournament and does not represent a return to India’s conventional international teams. The squad announced by Cricket Hong Kong, China comprises Bhuvneshwar, Krunal Pandya, Shashank Singh, Rahul Tewatia, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi and T Natarajan. The event is scheduled to feature 12 teams over three days. Reports identify different grounds as the venue, and the available information does not resolve the discrepancy. Bhuvneshwar, a fast bowler, has not played for India since a T20 international against New Zealand in November 2022, according to one report. His appointment as captain for the tournament gives him a role representing India in a format distinct from conventional international cricket. The selection itself does not establish that he has been recalled to India’s regular national teams. The squad includes several players with experience in the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket. Krunal is an all-rounder, while T Natarajan provides another pace-bowling option.
