Apple TV to Add Dolby Atmos for Austin F1 Grand Prix
Apple and Dolby Laboratories will add Dolby Atmos audio to Apple TV’s live U.S. Formula 1 coverage, beginning with the 2026 U.S. Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The race weekend is scheduled to start October 23, with the event running through October 25, according to the announcement and reports. The feature will add spatial audio to coverage that already includes Dolby Vision. Atmos is designed to make sounds seem to come from different locations around a room, and the companies say it will carry elements such as team-radio communications, commentary, engines and pit-lane activity. The sources describe the planned experience but do not provide independent tests of how it will sound to viewers. Access will depend on the equipment. The audio format will be available through the Apple TV app on supported Apple devices and compatible Dolby-enabled televisions, soundbars and home-theater systems. The reports do not specify whether every part of the race weekend will receive the Atmos feed or provide details from an actual broadcast using the technology. Apple holds exclusive U.S. streaming rights to Formula 1 under a deal that began with the 2026 season.
