Pornhub Restores Australian Access on Age-Verified Apple Devices
Pornhub will restore its standard adult experience in Australia for users who have verified their age through Apple’s device-level process, its parent company Aylo said Wednesday. The return is limited to age-verified iPhone and iPad users; Aylo’s announcement did not describe any change for Android or desktop visitors. The move reverses a restriction Aylo introduced in March, when it blocked or limited Australian access after age-assurance rules took effect. The rules require services covered by the measures to ensure users are adults before showing them explicit material, with penalties possible for noncompliance. Aylo had argued that website-based checks could create privacy risks and would not reliably protect minors. Apple’s process in Australia requires users to confirm they are adults before downloading apps rated 18 or changing certain safety settings. Reported verification options include a credit card or identity document. Devices retain safety restrictions until adulthood is confirmed, according to descriptions of Apple’s system. Alex Kekesi, Aylo’s vice-president of brand and community, said the company would restore access for users who completed Apple’s age check.
