Apple reportedly developing AI home camera without video
Apple is reportedly developing a home security camera that would use artificial intelligence to analyze activity and send users text descriptions rather than record video, according to comments by Mark Gurman. Apple has not confirmed the product, and its release timing and final capabilities remain unknown. Gurman described the device on his Power On podcast as part of a broader smart-home effort. The camera, reportedly code-named J450, would use an image sensor to examine its surroundings and provide descriptions of events, such as someone arriving at a door or movement in a room. It is said to be a small, cylindrical device. The reported design differs from conventional home security cameras by not saving or providing video footage. That could limit the ability to review what happened during an incident or share a recording with police or insurers. Gurman’s description did not establish whether users could enable any form of recording, or how image data would be processed. The camera is described as a companion to Apple’s rumored J490 smart-home display, part of a possible expansion into connected-home products.
