Antinori Says 30,000 Wine Bottles Stolen in Tuscany

Published 9 October 2026

Marchesi Antinori said thieves stole about 30,000 bottles of wine from its warehouse in Cortona, Tuscany, in a weekend raid valued by the company at about €5 million. The theft was discovered Monday, October 5, and the company made it public on Friday, October 9, while authorities investigated. The missing wines include Solaia, Tignanello and Guado al Tasso, three of the producer’s best-known labels. Antinori chief executive Renzo Cotarella said the bottles were from the 2023 vintage; accounts from the company put the number of Solaia bottles at about 10,000. The wine had been packed and prepared for export, making it available to be loaded and removed, company representatives said. Reports of the haul’s value vary with currency and valuation basis. Antinori’s estimate was about €5 million, also reported as roughly $5.8 million. One account calculated a higher figure using average U.S. retail prices. The company has not established a single retail valuation for the entire loss. The number of people involved has not been confirmed. Some reports, citing company estimates, said five or six people took part; others described at least seven or footage showing seven.
