FSSAI orders halt to sales of dairy whitener at Delhi hotel

Published 3 October 2026

India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) said a laboratory classified a sample of Nestlé Low Fat Dairy Whitener collected at The Lalit hotel in New Delhi as unsafe and substandard, and directed the food business operator to stop selling the identified product immediately. The sample was collected from the premises of Bharat Hotels Ltd’s The Lalit in Connaught Place. According to FSSAI, a food analyst’s laboratory report found the sample noncompliant with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The reports supplied do not include the laboratory’s measurements or explain which criteria led to the classification. FSSAI said it provided a copy of the laboratory report to the food business operator and issued a notice to Bharat Hotels Ltd. The operator was given an opportunity to appeal the analyst’s findings within the period prescribed under the law. The regulator’s statement describes the stop-sale direction and appeal opportunity, but does not establish whether sales have stopped or whether an appeal has been filed. The reported action concerns a specific sample collected at the hotel, rather than a finding about every unit of the product.
