India Regulator Takes Legal Action Against Nestlé Over Infant Products

India's food regulator has initiated legal action against Nestlé India over three infant nutrition products, citing substandard biotin content in one and misleading promotional claims on two others. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced the action on Friday, September 18, 2026, marking a significant regulatory move against the Swiss company in one of its key growth markets. The FSSAI stated it found a sample of a Nestlé "follow-up formula" to be substandard with respect to biotin, also known as vitamin B7. A reanalysis at a referral laboratory confirmed the sample was non-conforming with prescribed requirements under Indian infant nutrition regulations. The regulator did not identify the specific product name or indicate whether a recall would be ordered. In addition to the biotin finding, the FSSAI filed three separate adjudication cases against Nestlé India. Two cases concern alleged misleading promotional claims for the products NAN Excella Pro Stage 1 and Lactogen Pro 1. The regulator stated these claims violated restrictions on promotional material for infant foods.
