PepsiCo recalls 122,021 Gatorade cases over undeclared dyes
PepsiCo has recalled 122,021 cases of Gatorade 28-ounce bottles distributed in 37 states after the Food and Drug Administration identified undeclared yellow food dyes in four flavors. The FDA classified the recall as Class II on October 2, a category for products that may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences. The recall covers Gatorade Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange and Orange Zero. The FDA says the undeclared dyes may trigger allergic reactions in some consumers, including hives, itching or nasal congestion. Reports differ on whether the affected products contain Yellow No. 6 alone or also Yellow No. 5, so the specific dye or dyes have not been consistently identified. The FDA notice lists 122,021 cases distributed across Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin. The recall number is H00092027.
