Amazon Replaces Fire Tablets With Alexa Lineup
Amazon has announced three new Alexa-branded tablets that replace the Fire name in its latest lineup, adding full access to the Google Play Store and making Alexa a central feature. The devices are scheduled to go on sale in stages beginning October 14, 2026. The lineup includes the Alexa Tablet 8, an 11-inch model and the 12-inch Tablet 12 Pro. Amazon lists the Tablet 8 at $229.99 and the Tablet 11 at $329.99. The company’s launch pricing puts the glossy 12 Pro at $499.99 and its Nanomatte display version at $549.99. A hands-on account gave a lower $449.99 starting price for the glossy Pro, leaving the reported entry price unsettled. Amazon says sales begin October 14 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain on October 19. Some reports give October 19 as the general shipping date, but the company’s announcement specifies the earlier date for the first group of countries and the later date for Europe. Preorders have opened, according to launch coverage. The shift marks a change from the Fire tablets, which used a modified version of Android and did not include Google Play access.
