Amazon Confirms Fresh Cuts in Stores Business

Published 8 October 2026

Amazon has confirmed fresh job cuts focused mainly on its Stores business, with employees in the United States, India and the United Kingdom among those affected. The company did not disclose how many positions were eliminated. A person familiar with the matter said fewer than 1,000 white-collar roles were cut, an estimate that has not been confirmed by Amazon. Amazon said it adjusted parts of its Stores business because the new structure would better support its priorities. Stores oversees the company’s main e-commerce website. Employees were notified on October 6, according to reports based on staff accounts, and discussed the reductions on an internal Slack channel. Posts from the channel indicated that customer service and selling partner services were among the areas affected. Reports also identified marketplace support and engineering roles, though the posts do not establish the full scope of teams involved. Amazon has not provided a country-by-country breakdown, and it has not said whether additional cuts are planned. The reductions coincided with Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days, which ran October 6 and 7.
