Altman Says Garfield Captured His Walk in Artificial
Sam Altman says Andrew Garfield captured his walk and mannerisms while portraying him in Artificial, but Altman does not expect the film to accurately depict events surrounding his brief removal from OpenAI in 2023. The film, directed by Luca Guadagnino, is scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2026, through Neon. Altman said he saw the production filming outside his San Francisco home. According to his account, he was walking to get coffee when he noticed cameras and Garfield dressed like him and carrying a similar backpack. The two waved, Altman said, but did not speak. He described seeing the actor as strange and said Garfield had reproduced his walk and some mannerisms. Altman said the trailer gave him the impression that the filmmakers were not prioritizing strict accuracy. He pointed to a scene showing his character rushing into a bunker with firearms on the walls, saying no such bunker existed. He characterized that detail as inaccurate while acknowledging that it looked effective on screen. His assessment is based on the trailer and his account; the completed film’s accuracy has not been established.
