The Social Reckoning opens critics’ reviews at 67%

Published 6 October 2026

Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning has opened its first full critics’ review tally at 67% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 39 reviews, as the film prepares for its scheduled theatrical release on October 9. The score is below the 96% listed for Sorkin’s 2010 film The Social Network, but the tally is an early snapshot and does not include an audience score. The new film revisits Facebook through the 2021 disclosures by former employee Frances Haugen and the reporting of Jeff Horwitz, then a Wall Street Journal reporter. Mikey Madison plays Haugen and Jeremy Allen White portrays Horwitz. Rather than making Mark Zuckerberg the central figure, the story places him in a supporting role, played by Jeremy Strong. Reviews have differed on how well the film works. Some have highlighted Strong’s performance and the pairing of Madison and White, while others have criticized the direction, pacing or the film’s comparison with The Social Network. Strong’s portrayal has also drawn contrasting reactions, with some critics finding it effective and others describing it as overly mannered. The early assessments therefore suggest a mixed critical response, rather than a settled verdict.
