All 13 tested energy-saving devices fail safety checks
Electrical Safety First said all 13 energy-saving devices it bought from AliExpress, Amazon Marketplace and TikTok Shop failed safety tests and could not deliver the advertised reductions in electricity use. The charity said the products could also pose risks of electric shock and fire, and that two effectively exploded during testing. The devices were promoted as household bill-cutting products that work by stabilising voltage when plugged into a socket. According to the charity, none contained components capable of producing the claimed savings and they would cost users money to run. Listings suggested that tens of thousands may have been sold to UK shoppers, but the reports did not establish a verified sales total. Electrical Safety First said the plug pins on all 13 devices failed dimensional and mechanical-strength requirements. It also found that some lacked a fuse or other suitable internal protection, while others used glass fuses in the mains circuit that did not meet safety requirements. The charity said one device sent hot metal fragments into the air during testing.
