Aldi plans £900 million UK investment for 2027
Aldi UK says it will invest £900 million in 2027, funding 40 planned new stores and improvements to its warehouse and distribution network as the grocer expands while investing in prices and wages. The company announced the plan on September 28. It said the spending would support store openings and work across its distribution infrastructure, but the announcement does not establish that all 40 stores or the network improvements will be completed during 2027. Aldi reported turnover of £19 billion in 2025, up 5% from the previous year. The reported total includes Ireland. Operating profit was £432.9 million, compared with £435.5 million in 2024. The figures indicate a small decline, although descriptions of the change vary among the reported accounts. Aldi attributed pressure on earnings to investment in prices, infrastructure and workers’ pay. The grocer also said it had spent £340 million on price reductions. Chief executive Giles Hurley said food costs remained one of the biggest pressures on households, and pointed to droughts and events overseas as concerns for food security.
