Xbox to Publish Kojima's PHYSINT Game After Sony Exit

Published 10 September 2026

Xbox Game Studios will publish Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game PHYSINT, expanding its partnership with Kojima Productions. The announcement comes after Sony’s PlayStation Studios, which was previously set to publish the title, stated it had made the difficult decision to step away from the project. Kojima himself confirmed that PlayStation Studios notified Kojima Productions in mid-June that it would cancel PHYSINT. He stated that determined to keep the project alive, the studio spent the subsequent three months searching for a new partner, ultimately finding Xbox. "Creators have choices about where and how they bring their ideas to life," said Xbox CEO Asha Sharma. "We’re honored that Kojimasan has chosen XBOX to work with KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on PHYSINT. His ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity we want to support at XBOX." Development of PHYSINT is ongoing and will continue under Xbox’s publishing umbrella. The game, described as a genre-defining action-espionage title, is Kojima’s second project with Xbox, following the horror game OD.
