Xbox Disc-to-Digital Feature for Physical Games Starts Testing Aug. 31

Xbox has announced a new disc-to-digital feature that will allow owners of physical games to claim a digital license for their titles, granting access to ecosystem benefits like Xbox Play Anywhere and Cloud Gaming. The program, which has been the subject of rumors for months, will begin testing with Xbox Insiders on August 31, 2026. The announcement was made in a post on the Xbox Wire blog by Jason Ronald, Xbox's Vice President of Next Generation. "Today we are introducing a feature that brings the benefits of digital to physical discs, giving players more flexibility in how they access and play supported games across the Xbox ecosystem," Ronald stated.
