White House asks Guilfoyle to resign as Greece ambassador

Published 14 October 2026

The White House asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. ambassador to Greece on October 13, as allegations of misconduct involving her dealings with a political donor drew scrutiny. Guilfoyle denied the allegations and said she would defend her reputation. The reports provided no official finding substantiating the claims. White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced the request. President Donald Trump told reporters that Guilfoyle had dated his son, Donald Trump Jr., a long time ago and was not a member of his family. He said she had been doing a good job in Greece but that the administration did not like what it had been reading. Trump also said he had not spoken to her. The resignation request followed public remarks a day earlier in which Trump said his administration was looking into the matter and was not satisfied. At that point, he had not announced a final decision. The White House’s October 13 statement marked a change in status: the administration had asked Guilfoyle to resign. The central allegation concerns Eric Deters, a former lawyer and political donor.
