West Indies name India tour squads, Pooran gets maiden T20I call-up
Cricket West Indies has announced separate ODI and T20I squads for its upcoming white-ball tour of India, with opener Kamil Pooran earning a maiden international call-up and Shimron Hetmyer rested for the one-day leg of the series. The tour features three One Day Internationals and five Twenty20 Internationals, scheduled from September 27 to October 18 across eight cities. Pooran, who plays for Saint Lucia Kings, impressed in his first Caribbean Premier League campaign, scoring 273 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 159.34. His form earned him a place in the T20I squad, with selectors framing the call-up as part of a broader focus on emerging talent ahead of the 2028 T20 World Cup. Hetmyer, who finished CPL 2026 as the tournament's second-highest run-scorer with 367 runs in 12 innings, has been granted an extended recovery period following the league. He will miss the three ODIs, which run from September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram to October 3, but is set to join the squad for the five T20Is beginning October 6. The ODI squad retains a largely familiar core from recent series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
