Volkswagen Unveils Electric ID. Tiguan for 2027

Published 9 October 2026

Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Tiguan, an electric SUV planned as the successor to its ID.4 and ID.5 models in Europe, with sales expected to begin in early 2027. The company says the new model will offer up to 373 miles of range under Europe’s WLTP testing standard, in a rear-wheel-drive configuration with a 77-kilowatt-hour battery. The ID. Tiguan adopts a more upright, squared-off design than the ID.4, including a full-width lighting strip and conventional pull-style door handles. Volkswagen says the changes are intended to give the SUV a more substantial appearance. The electric model will be sold alongside petrol, diesel and hybrid versions of the Tiguan, rather than replacing them. Three powertrain configurations are planned for Europe. The entry version has rear-wheel drive, a 58-kWh battery and about 187 horsepower. A rear-wheel-drive model with a 77-kWh battery produces about 282 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive version produces 295 horsepower. Volkswagen lists maximum ranges of up to 373 miles for the rear-wheel-drive 77-kWh version and 348 miles for the all-wheel-drive model. Those are WLTP figures and do not establish the range for other markets.
