Video Shows Spike Lee in Pregame Fan Confrontation

Published 1 October 2026

A video showed filmmaker Spike Lee visibly agitated during a confrontation with a fan before the New York Yankees played the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium on September 30, with people nearby intervening to keep them apart. The short clip does not show what led to the exchange, and accounts of the fan’s words differ. In the footage, Lee stands and moves toward another person while those around him hold him back. He can be heard asking, “Why’d you come over to me?” A man nearby appears to direct someone to leave. Reports said the fan was removed from the area, but the clip itself does not establish the full sequence or show what happened before recording began. One account, attributed to the New York Post, said the fan approached Lee for a photograph and asked him to say an obscenity directed at Palestine. Sports radio host Andy Slater separately reported that the fan was filming Lee while he ate and asked how he felt about Palestine. The brief video does not capture either alleged question, so the precise trigger has not been established independently. The encounter took place in the Legends Suite dining area before Game 2 of the Yankees’ playoff series against Boston.
