Published 2 October 2026

Newly unsealed police body-camera footage of Luigi Mangione’s December 9, 2024, arrest at an Altoona, Pennsylvania, McDonald’s was made public after a judge authorized its release. The recordings show officers questioning Mangione, searching his belongings and finding a gun magazine wrapped in underwear. The separate state murder case against him remains unresolved as a judge considers his motion to dismiss it. The footage captures officers approaching Mangione at the restaurant, asking him to lower his mask and questioning him about his identity. He initially presented identification bearing the name Mark Rosario, then later gave officers his real name. Officers handcuffed him and searched his pockets and backpack. During the backpack search, an officer found the magazine. The recordings also show officers transporting Mangione to a police station, where they searched him and his belongings again. According to the footage, a firearm was recovered from the backpack at the station. Prosecutors have described a notebook found there as Mangione’s manifesto. The recordings include body-camera views from eight officers and document the encounter through processing at the station.
