Judge Rejects Rick Ross Request for Faster Release

Published 2 October 2026

Rick Ross appeared in Miami-Dade court after surrendering on battery charges, where a judge rejected his lawyer’s request for expedited release based on the rapper’s celebrity status. Judge Mindy Glazer said Ross would be treated fairly like other defendants, and the charges against him remain unproven. Ross, whose legal name is William Roberts II, surrendered to authorities on October 1 and appeared remotely at a hearing later that day. His attorney, Bradley Horenstein, asked Glazer to speed up his release, citing Ross’s public profile and concerns about his safety while in custody. The judge questioned what celebrity status meant for the request before telling Ross he would receive the same fair treatment as everyone else in court. Ross faces a felony charge of battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor battery charge. He has pleaded not guilty. Reports differ on the total bond set across the charges, so the amount could not be established from the available accounts. The charges follow allegations by Jazzma Kendrick, Ross’s former girlfriend, who accused him of physical abuse. The allegations have not been proven in court.
