Ukraine and U.S. Envoys Set Miami Talks on War
Ukrainian officials are scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoys in Miami on October 9 and 10 for discussions aimed at developing proposals to end Russia’s war in Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the talks, which are expected to include European officials, as diplomatic efforts remain stalled. The Ukrainian delegation is due to meet Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoys. Zelensky said the meetings would last two days and that Ukraine was counting on a European team joining the negotiating group. Ukrainian officials expected to participate include Rustem Umerov, Kyrylo Budanov, Sergiy Kyslytsya and David Arakhamia. U.S. officials familiar with the discussions said the agenda would include new proposals, security guarantees for Ukraine and a postwar prosperity plan. They described the U.S. aim as working with the sides toward a unified proposal. National security advisers from the United Kingdom, France and Germany, along with officials from NATO and the European Union, were invited, according to the officials. Zelensky described the U.S. discussions as covering proposals for an energy and Black Sea ceasefire.
