UK second-quarter growth revised up to 0.5%

Published 1 October 2026

The Office for National Statistics revised UK economic growth in the second quarter of 2026 to 0.5%, up from an initial estimate of 0.4%, while confirming that expansion slowed from 0.6% in the first quarter. The updated figures show stronger output than previously measured, but do not establish whether that pace will continue. The ONS said the upward revision was driven mainly by services, which grew 0.6% between April and June, compared with an earlier estimate of 0.5%. Updated business survey data contributed to the change. Construction output also increased, while production declined, according to the revised figures. Household finances improved during the quarter. Real household disposable income per head rose 1.0%, after falling 0.8% in the first quarter. The household savings ratio was 8.8%; comparisons with the previous quarter were reported against a figure of 8.6%. The ONS also substantially revised its estimate of business investment growth. Annualised growth for the second quarter was put at 5.2%, compared with an earlier estimate of 0.8%. That investment revision was reported in one account of the data.
