UCLA Beats Oregon as Iamaleava Injury Clouds 5-0 Start

Published 12 October 2026

UCLA stayed unbeaten with a 17-15 win over Oregon on October 10, but the victory was followed by uncertainty over quarterback Nico Iamaleava’s knee injury and how long he may be sidelined. The Bruins improved to 5-0 after holding off Oregon in Eugene. Iamaleava left the game with the injury and did not play in the second half. He briefly returned after initially leaving, then was replaced by Ty Dieffenbach, who completed 3 of 6 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. Reports about Iamaleava’s expected absence differ in certainty. ESPN reportedly said he was expected to be out indefinitely pending a full medical evaluation, with a chance he could miss the rest of the season. Separately, Matt Zenitz reported that sources expected Iamaleava to miss the remainder of the season. Neither report includes a final medical evaluation or confirmed recovery timeline. Iamaleava threw for 162 yards against Oregon before leaving. Through UCLA’s first five games, he had completed 62.1% of his passes for 982 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions.
