U2 Named MusiCares 2027 Persons of the Year

Published 10 September 2026

U2 will be honored as MusiCares' 2027 Persons of the Year, the Recording Academy announced Thursday, recognizing the Irish rock band's five-decade career and its members' extensive humanitarian work. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. will be celebrated at the 36th annual Persons of the Year benefit gala on Friday, February 5, 2027, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, two nights before the 2027 Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena. The honor comes as the band marks its 50th anniversary, having formed after its members met as students at Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin in 1976. U2 has sold more than 170 million albums worldwide and won 22 Grammy awards, more than any other group or duo, and is the only act in Grammy history to win two awards in each of the three highest-profile categories: album of the year, record of the year and song of the year. Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, said the organization was honored to celebrate the band.
