Two rescued in Nepal 10 days after floods

Rescuers in Nepal pulled a Chinese national and a woman alive from separate flood-affected sites on Saturday, September 5, 2026, approximately 10 days after devastating floods struck the country. The rescues offered a glimmer of hope amidst ongoing efforts to find survivors trapped by the disaster. A Chinese worker, identified as Luhaitao, was extracted from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 1 Hydropower Project in Rasuwa district. The rescue was conducted by a joint team of Nepalese military personnel and South Korean disaster response experts. Images showed the man, appearing exhausted and covered in mud, being evacuated by helicopter for a health assessment. This rescue marked the third worker pulled alive from a hydropower tunnel in the region. Earlier on Friday, September 4, two Nepalese workers were rescued from a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3A Hydropower Plant. In a separate operation in Nuwakot town, a 64-year-old woman, Chandika Shrestha, was found alive inside a damaged house. She was subsequently airlifted to Kathmandu for medical treatment. Rescuers found her covered in mud and wrapped her in a gray blanket before her evacuation.
