Two election commissioners objected 14 times to voter roll decisions

Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally objected at least 14 times over 10 months to decisions and orders related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls that they said were issued without their knowledge, according to an investigation published on September 23, 2026. The objections, recorded on file between November 2025 and August 2026, covered the addition, deletion and restoration of voters, appeals against electoral roll decisions, and the management of the voter database. Election Commission officials responded the same day, stating that all decisions of the poll panel, including those related to the SIR, were unanimous and carried the approval of both Election Commissioners and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. ECI sources separately said the observations made by Sandhu and Joshi were considered internally and should not be construed as formal dissent against Commission decisions. Among the reported objections, Sandhu described a change to Form 6, used for new voter registration, as unauthorised and illegal and said it must be removed immediately.
