TV Pool Suspends Coverage After Trump Bars Three Outlets

President Donald Trump barred CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from the White House grounds effective September 18, citing what he described as unfavorable and false coverage, prompting the five networks that rotate responsibility for the White House television pool to suspend pooled video coverage of presidential events. The pool, made up of ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC, shares the cost of producing video and audio that is distributed to news organizations worldwide. CNN had been scheduled to handle pool duties for Monday's presidential events, including Trump's travel to the United Nations General Assembly, but a White House schedule released late Sunday removed the network from the assignment. Bryan Boughton, the Fox News Washington bureau chief serving as acting pool chair, informed members in a note Monday that the television pool would not cover events designated as pool coverage of the president. He wrote that no replacement pool would be put in place and that all other pool coverage, including Congress, VIPs, and selected events, would continue as normal.
