Trump threatens Iran as delegation walks out at UN

President Donald Trump threatened at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to annihilate Iran if it fails to reach a deal on its nuclear program, while the Iranian delegation walked out roughly 10 minutes into his address as he turned to the conflict with Tehran. Speaking to world leaders in New York, Trump framed the choice as whether a deal would be made that lets Iran rebuild, or whether he would "annihilate the Islamic Republic" and "drive them into hell." He said he believed an agreement would come after the November midterm elections, arguing that Iran is waiting to see the outcome of the vote. Iranian staff and delegates were seated when he began speaking, and only one lower-level representative remained in the chamber as he addressed Iran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi were in New York for the annual meeting but were not seated with the delegation during the speech. The Cuban delegation also walked out later when Trump turned to Cuba.
