Trump says doctors advised a lower daily aspirin dose

Published 5 October 2026

President Donald Trump said at an October 3 rally in Vandalia, Ohio, that he takes aspirin every day partly because he feels he needs the routine psychologically, even though doctors have advised him to use a lower dose. His remarks did not establish his current dose or why his doctors recommended reducing it. Trump said he was unsure whether aspirin was helping him and described taking it for decades. He said he prefers the larger tablet and has continued using it despite his doctors’ advice. He also joked that the smaller pill did not look right and suggested that something bad might happen if he switched. His description of the amount was inconsistent. At the rally, Trump referred to taking “386” after saying doctors wanted him to go down to “80.” His physician, Capt. Sean Barbabella, had previously been reported as saying Trump takes 325 milligrams daily for cardiac prevention. The May 2026 physical reportedly included counseling to take low-dose aspirin. The rally comments do not show that Trump’s documented regimen has changed, and the available information does not resolve what dose he currently takes.
