Trump Comments on Husted’s Physique at Ohio Campaign Rally

Donald Trump told a campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio, that he examined Senator Jon Husted’s physique after learning of Husted’s college football career, then commented on his backside and hands. The remarks came as Trump campaigned for Husted, a Republican seeking to retain the Senate seat he was appointed to fill, and for Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. Trump spoke on October 12 at the Covelli Center, with Husted in attendance. He recounted that former football coach Jon Gruden had told him Husted was a standout University of Dayton player and Gruden’s former teammate. Trump said he had looked Husted up and down, remarked on his backside, and described his hands as claw-like. He also said he did not do that with men very often. Gruden had introduced Trump at the rally. According to Trump’s account, Gruden told him Husted had been the best player on the team. Husted played defensive back at Dayton, where he was an All-American and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The reports describe Gruden and Husted as college teammates. Husted later joined Trump on stage and told the crowd that the president had helped bring the region and state to prominence.
