Towns Says Knicks Extension Agreement Remains Distant

Published 5 October 2026

Karl-Anthony Towns says he wants a contract extension with the New York Knicks that values him and helps keep the roster together, but the center indicated Monday that an agreement remains distant. He said a deal before the start of the 2026-27 season does not look likely, and no extension has been announced. Speaking to reporters after a shootaround, Towns said the conditions he wants for an agreement had not come close to being met. His comments describe a gap between his aim of remaining with the Knicks and the terms under discussion, though he did not specify what contract figure he would accept. Reports put New York’s offer at about $200 million over four years. That figure has not been confirmed by the team in the information available. A separate report described the offer’s starting annual value as between $45 million and $50 million. Towns is eligible for a four-year extension estimated at roughly $272 million to $276 million, but the maximum depends on him declining his $61 million player option for the 2027-28 season. The differing maximum estimates reflect projections in the reports, not a finalized contract figure.
