Tomb Raider Series Violated UK Safety Laws During Filming

The production of Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming "Tomb Raider" series breached UK health and safety laws during filming at Shinfield Studios earlier this year, according to a ruling by Britain's Health and Safety Executive. The regulator found that the production company failed to provide adequate protections for crew members handling hazardous substances. The HSE determined that Project Temple Productions Ltd, the special purpose company behind the series, violated the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002. The breach concerned the spraying of isocyanate paints, which are a leading cause of occupational asthma. According to HSE guidance, these paints produce an invisible mist that can linger in the air for up to 20 minutes after spraying ends. Employers are required to know the clearance time for a specific space and ensure workers undergo biological monitoring to verify that control measures, such as personal protective equipment, are effective. The HSE issued an improvement notice to Project Temple Productions in April 2026, requiring the company to remedy the breach.
