Three 21-Year-Olds Killed in Kochi Mini Cooper Crash
A Mini Cooper struck a scooter near Kochi International Airport early Sunday, killing all three people riding it, and police arrested the car’s 19-year-old driver, Suhail Sajeev. The victims, Iyas, Devika and Gopika, were all 21. Police said the scooter was hit from behind as the three returned from a tea break. Sajeev was arrested and booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which concerns culpable homicide not amounting to murder. A magistrate remanded him to 14 days in judicial custody, according to reports. Police said the investigation was continuing, including into whether he was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. Police said evidence gathered from bars and CCTV supported their allegation that Sajeev had been drinking before the collision. Reports said he and companions visited three bars. Investigators also collected blood samples, with testing cited as part of the ongoing inquiry. The allegation of intoxication has not been established by a test result in the available information.
