Delhi Police Denies Permission for CJP Protest
Delhi Police has denied permission for the Cockroach Janta Party’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, while requesting restrictions on Delhi Metro services and preparing other precautions ahead of the demonstration. Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said the police received an application from CJP co-convenor Saurav Das on October 7, three days before the planned protest. She said guidelines require applications at least 10 days in advance. Prasad also cited alleged failures to follow directions and undertakings at an earlier protest, along with concerns about public safety, law and order, and traffic. The police’s account of the earlier conduct has not been independently established in the supplied reporting. The protest was called to seek accountability from Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid objections raised by demonstrators to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Police said prohibitory restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were in force in New Delhi district and warned that violations could lead to legal action.
