Supermassive Games loses more than 70 employees
Supermassive Games is laying off more than 70 employees, according to former IT and facilities director Frank Tindle, following a redundancy consultation the studio said in August could result in up to 75 job losses. Tindle announced his departure in a LinkedIn post, saying employees from development, art, production, quality assurance and operations were leaving. The figure comes from Tindle’s statement; the studio has not publicly confirmed a final count in the material available. Its August announcement described the consultation as a necessary step to help ensure the company’s sustainability. The announced ceiling of up to 75 was a projection before the consultation concluded, while Tindle’s account indicates that more than 70 people are now leaving. The two figures are broadly consistent, but do not establish the exact number of employees affected or whether every departure is part of the same process. The cuts follow an earlier round announced in July 2025, when Supermassive said up to 36 roles could be eliminated. Reports linked those reductions to a delay for Directive 8020, the studio’s latest game, which was released in May 2026.
