Google launches prompt-based Playground game creation

Published 7 October 2026

Google has launched Playground, an experimental platform that lets adults in the United States create and share browser-based games by describing them in text prompts. The service is available to US users aged 18 and older, according to Google, and does not require coding. Users can start with a blank prompt or adapt suggested starting points, then test a game and request changes to its physics, rules, characters or setting. The interface also lets users choose between 2D and 3D formats. Google says some game genres support multiplayer and leaderboards. Games can be kept private, shared through a link or published to the Playground Explore gallery. Google says games submitted to the gallery undergo safety screening, and users can report content. The company describes Playground as free to use, with Google One subscribers receiving higher weekly token limits according to their plans. Google says Playground combines its Gemini, Nano Banana and Lyria models with a custom system developed for game creation. The company has not provided independent performance results, and the available details describe the service’s features rather than how well its generated games work in practice.
