Six shortlisted for ICC September player awards
The International Cricket Council has nominated six players for its September 2026 Player of the Month awards, with three contenders in each category. India captain Shubman Gill, teammate Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza are shortlisted for the men’s award. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu, India’s Shafali Verma and Sree Charani are the women’s nominees. The reports do not identify the winners. Gill’s nomination follows a reported 333 runs in two one-day internationals against the West Indies. He scored 110 in the first match, then made an unbeaten 223 in the second as India chased a target of 406. The second innings was described in reports as an ODI double-century and helped complete the chase. Abhishek was nominated after scoring 229 runs in three Twenty20 internationals against Afghanistan, according to the reports. His series included 108 in the third match, and he reached his century in 30 deliveries. Accounts differ on the number of balls he faced for the full innings, so that figure is not included here. The reports also describe the century as the fastest T20I hundred by a batter from an ICC Full Member nation.
