Shay Thomas asks for prayers as Ron Duguay battles cancer
Ron Duguay’s daughter, Shay Thomas, has asked the public to pray for the former New York Rangers player after sharing a photograph of herself beside him in a hospital bed. Duguay, 69, is battling stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to his liver, according to the family’s account. Thomas posted the image on Instagram on Sunday, October 11, and wrote that the family needed prayers. The post does not explain when or why Duguay was hospitalized, and it does not provide an update on his current medical condition or prognosis. Thomas has previously described a serious episode in July, when Duguay fainted at home, was unconscious and suffered facial injuries. She said he was taken to hospital by ambulance. According to her account, doctors found that he was dehydrated and having difficulty eating. The fall also knocked out veneers and two of his natural teeth. In her description of his health concerns, Thomas said pressure in his liver and bleeding were major issues. She attributed the pressure to the cancer and the effects of surgery, chemotherapy and a treatment pump, and said it could cause blood to back up into the stomach. She also said an ulcer needed further evaluation.
