School Roof Collapse in Peshawar Kills Students and Teacher

Published 15 October 2026

A roof collapsed at Al Khair School in Peshawar during classes on October 15, killing students and a teacher and injuring dozens, according to hospital officials. Rescue crews searched the rubble for children reported trapped, while authorities ordered an inquiry into the cause. Casualty counts rose as officials provided updates during the morning. Lady Reading Hospital spokesperson Mohammad Asim was cited in multiple reports confirming deaths and injuries, but the reports did not establish a final toll. Several later updates put the number killed at 28 students and one teacher; earlier accounts reported lower figures. Injury counts also varied, with reports ranging from more than 20 to more than 50. Rescue 1122 spokesman Bilal Faizi said children remained trapped and crews were working to reach them. A later account from rescue officials said everyone trapped beneath the rubble had been recovered, as workers cleared debris. The reports described the emergency response as unfolding over the course of the morning. Peshawar police chief Mian Saeed said the school owner had been arrested and described the building as structurally weak.
