Samsung announces Galaxy Tab S12 tablets, from $1,199

Samsung has announced two premium Android tablets, the Galaxy Tab S12 and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, with U.S. sales scheduled to begin October 7. The company lists starting prices of $1,199 for the S12 and $1,399 for the Ultra, which has a 14.6-inch display; the S12 has a 12.6-inch screen. Both tablets use MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chipset and feature AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 1,600 nits, according to Samsung’s specifications. The Ultra is 5.1 millimeters thick, while the S12 measures 5.3 millimeters. Each includes an S Pen and has an IP68 dust- and water-resistance rating. Samsung says the Ultra can provide up to 23 hours of battery life and the S12 up to 21 hours. Those are company estimates. In a separate review, one tester recorded 11 hours and 31 minutes for the Ultra in a battery test and said it lasted less than the preceding model. The available reports do not provide matching test conditions, so the figures are not directly comparable. The tablets run Android 17 with Samsung’s One UI 9 software. Adobe Photoshop is preinstalled, and Samsung has described other app offers and trials for buyers.
