Samsung Announces Galaxy Buds On for South Korea
Samsung has announced the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on-style open-ear wireless earbuds, with sales scheduled to begin in South Korea on October 27 at KRW 299,000. The company has not announced specific dates or prices for other markets. The design leaves the ear canal unobstructed, unlike conventional in-ear earbuds. Samsung says the format is intended to support awareness of surrounding sounds and extended wear. The earbuds use a clip-on structure that wraps around the ear, with touch controls for music and calls. Samsung says it studied different ear shapes and used simulations to help balance the placement of the speakers and batteries and distribute pressure. The Galaxy Buds On include TwinBoost speakers, which Samsung says are designed to strengthen low-frequency sound, and automatic volume control that adjusts levels to the surrounding environment. The company also describes an Audio Leakage Reduction feature intended to limit sound escaping from the open-ear design. These are product claims; the reports provide no independent testing of sound quality, fit, leakage control or battery performance. Samsung advertises up to 9.5 hours of playback on a charge.
