Samsung Foldable Sales Rise in South Korea After Apple Unveils iPhone Duo
Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 sales in South Korea rose by approximately 10% in the week following Apple's unveiling of its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, according to industry sources. The unexpected sales boost for Samsung occurred despite expectations that Apple's entry into the foldable market would draw customers away from the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Industry analysts cited by Korean media outlets attributed the increase to consumers who had delayed their purchases while waiting to see Apple's new product. After the iPhone Duo was announced on September 9, 2026, some of these buyers opted for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 instead. The sales data, reported by sources including Yonhap and Maeil Business News, reflects a week-over-week comparison in the South Korean market. A significant price difference in South Korea appears to be a key factor. The 256GB iPhone Duo is priced at 3.29 million won (approximately $2,380), while the comparable Galaxy Z Fold 8 model costs 2.28 million won (about $1,650). This gap of roughly 1 million won, or $700, is considerably wider than in the United States, where the price difference between the two devices is about $100.
