Russian strikes kill civilians across Ukraine

Published 7 October 2026

Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions overnight into Wednesday, October 7, killing civilians and damaging homes and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said. The heaviest reported loss of life was in Pryluky, where a missile hit a five-storey apartment building in the northern Chernihiv region. Ukrainian emergency services said 14 people, including four children, were killed there and 50 were injured. Rescue workers were still searching the rubble in reports published Wednesday, and a final toll for all the strikes was not established. Casualty figures across Ukraine shifted as officials issued updates. Ukrainian authorities reported deaths in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kremenchuk and Oleksandriia, in addition to those in Pryluky. Kyiv’s mayor said two people were killed in the capital’s Darnytskyi district. Reports also described damage to residential buildings in several cities, an industrial facility in Dnipro and transport infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia. Accounts differed on the total number killed and injured across the country, partly because some figures covered the previous 24 hours rather than only the overnight attack.
