Russian strikes damage Kyiv energy facilities and disrupt power
Russian missiles and drones struck energy facilities in Kyiv, the surrounding region and other parts of Ukraine overnight, Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said Wednesday, in what he described as the largest combined attack on energy infrastructure since the end of the previous heating season. The assault damaged power equipment and disrupted electricity, while the full extent of the damage and the repair timeline remained unclear. DTEK said its workers restored electricity to 8,000 households after damage to Kyiv’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine’s grid operator, Ukrenergo, said emergency power cuts were imposed in Kyiv and three surrounding regions, the first such measure in the capital since spring. Some tram and trolleybus services in Kyiv were also partly halted as outages affected the city. The attack was part of a broader assault across Ukraine. Koretskyi said strikes began Tuesday evening and affected 11 regions, hitting energy facilities as well as residential buildings, social infrastructure, businesses and railway facilities.
